To ensure the safety of all our stakeholders and their families, Welcome Ideas requires the use of masks for all students, staff, and visitors once they enter the property, regardless of vaccination status. Each student has been provided with two cloth masks and medical masks are available for visitors and outside vendors. As more of our students become vaccinated, this policy will be revisited based on the state of the pandemic in Zanzibar and the percentage of students vaccinated.
A digital thermometer has been installed at the entrance of Welcome Ideas, to allow for the temperature testing of all students, staff, and visitors. Students are encouraged to stay home if they aren’t feeling well or if they have a fever. Our strict attendance policies have been relaxed during the pandemic and students are now allowed to watch videos of the lectures that they miss if they stayed home because of illness. If an individual’s temperature check is too high or too low, an additional and more accurate reading can be done using thermometers in the office.
Welcome Ideas has installed hand sanitizer in each of the classrooms and at the entrance to the facility. Students, staff, and visitors are required to sanitize their hands when entering the facility. We also remind everyone at Welcome Ideas that the use of hand sanitizer is not a substitute to good handwashing and hand hygiene practices.
To ensure that students, staff, visitors, and their families are protected from the COVID-19 virus, social distancing (of 2 meters or 6 feet) is required on the Welcome Ideas campus. Classroom capacity has been cut from a maximum of 26 students down to 8 students. Student seating in each classroom is determined by our social distancing guidelines and students are not allowed to move their chairs or change seats in the classrooms. To comply with our social distancing policies and the special culture of greetings in Zanzibar, the shaka from Hawaii has become the official greeting and handshake used at Welcome Ideas.
Fully stocked hand washing stations are located through-out the school, in each of the restrooms and in the student lounge and both kitchens. Everyone is reminded to wash their hands after using the restroom, after coughing or sneezing, before/after preparing or eating food, and after touching their mouth, nose, or face. We also encourage the use of hand sanitizer after hand washing to ensure proper hand hygiene.
For the safety of our students, the entire staff at Welcome Ideas has been vaccinated against the COVID-19 virus. During our Pandemic Re-Opening Orientation, we discussed the importance of being vaccinated to protect each other and our families. Most of our students live in multigenerational households, so it is extremely important that we ensure our students do not get exposed to COVID-19 while at Welcome Ideas. Our “Welcome Ideas Vaccine Club,” which is updated every day on our welcome board, highlights all the students who have demonstrated the courage and kindness to care about one another.
